Barbara Evans & Paula Cooper

As far back as I can remember, my mother would always say to me, “What do you want to do?”, “Do what makes you happy”, “Have a think and weigh up the pros and cons”, “Don’t rush into it — do a little research”, “Well, as long as you’re happy”, and the best one of all… “Well, it’s your life!”

The decisions I have made throughout my life have therefore been of my own accord, and at the time, I didn’t think those words helped me one little bit! Looking back now, they were the best words she could ever have given me.

Life has been a journey, and my mother helped, supported, and encouraged everything I have done, wanted to do, and continue to do.

Now that I am a parent myself, I understand the privilege and opportunity that motherhood brings. I would not only like to thank my mother, Barbara Evans, for all of her support, but also thank her dearly for being part of the success of Redheart Appaloosas.

At the age of 12, my mum was bought a foal called Beauty , he was the love of her life and stayed with the family until his passing in his early 30s. A true character whose memories will stay with us forever.

In 2010, Barbara took the UK Yearling Filly Award at the Appaloosa Club UK National Breed Show with Princesse Pascale. On the same day, I stood proudly by her side with Peyres Catori Cat, achieving the UK Reserve Female Championship.

In 2012, between us, Peyres Catori Cat achieved the Highest Grade Young Stock Award within The British Appaloosa Society. Princesse Pascale was also awarded 3rd place in the Nupafeed Supplement Amateur Points Award under the British Show Horse Association. To top off the end of her showing days, Princesse Pascale received The Amazing Blue Performance Award in the Open In-Hand Championship, gaining a Register of Merit (ROM).

Together, we spread our wings and learned to fly.

Barbara — my soulmate, my best friend, and my mum — sadly passed away in my arms on 17th November 2020. The biggest HEART of Redhearts now watches over us all.

Forever loved, forever missed!

We have together spread our wings and we have learnt to fly!

“Nothing stays the same” — words my mum always said, and words that now hold more meaning than ever before.
