The Redheart Mares in Autumn 2022
The Autumn leaves are so characteristic of the Appaloosa Breed, not one leaf has the same colour, not one leaf has the same pattern, and these changes occur over time, just phenomenal!
As a child I was brought up on a working farm in Cwmbran, South Wales. I used to spend my days pulling up docks in the fields, creosoting the fences, white washing the stables and washing out the water tanks in order to have a pony.
I obtained many other rides in my early teenage days and learnt a little from each one. Every horse was different in size, nature, ability and scope. I very quickly learnt how to achieve the very best from that individual in whatever discipline.
At the age of eighteen I headed off to West Oxfordshire carrying on my education in land management and business studies in the Thoroughbred world. During this time many doors opened,
In 1997 a vacancy at a National Hunt Trainer in Gloucestershire opened a new chapter in my life with the availability of stables and land located nearby. Confidently starting training and competing point to pointers as a hobby.
2007 I started working at The Three Counties Equine Hospital LLP. This has been the most enjoyable and rewarding place of work. I am proud to be part of a dedicated team moving forward in the Veterinary world, full of new and exciting technology to aid the equine industry.
With no horses in my life during my “brood mare” days, I can honestly say it must be a disease in the blood! It wasn’t long before I longed for some kind of “equine interest” and challenge .
Off to France to import Peyres Catori Cat in 2008 and off to Austria to collect and import Princesse Pascale in 2009!
My foundation stock to build upon, Redheart Appaloosas today.

Our nightly checks are important before we sleep and when it’s a full moon, I’m sure even our night-blind horses see a little clearer. The October Hunter’s Moon wasn’t that clear, but we couldn’t help capturing this image, it really was such a calm warm night and the three weanlings, Rosella, Really and Remy seemed […]

The second weanling of 2022 to leave the stud was Redheart Replication… Robyn is the most sensitive foal we have bred, his owner Andrea understands him 100%, we wish him every future happiness and success, we know he will shine through with her confidence and understanding.
Breeding is so rewarding… The first weanling of 2022 to leave the stud was Redheart Raphaele, we are so proud of her and wish her every success with her owner Emma.
The Class of 2022 are learning to load, travel and unload until it becomes as familiar as putting their headcollar on.
As a mark of respect, we will be closed today for Her Majesty’s state funeral. We send our sincerest condolences to King Charles III and the Royal Family.
Today we went to support Redheart Raven (Peyres Catori Cat x DRF Patahas Redheart) debut outing competing in a young stock class at Hulks Farm. His performance was flawless…huge congratulations to his owner Naomi (who is too young to compete) but to her mother Emma who has never shown before… A well deserved 2nd place, […]
Redheart Reality (aka Tally) is out of our very precious mare Princesse Pascale (aka PP), he is by our first homebred horse Hevans EV Cataorrius (aka Reus) who has just exceeded all our expectations in every way. We have only used this mating once because Reus is related to our other mares and you can’t […]
When mares give birth, their natural instinct is to protect their foals, we would never turn a mare and foal out within a herd from day one and what makes our situation worse in March 2022 is the wet weather and muddy ground. We dare not risk any infection via an umbilical chord with the […]
