Morning Glory………

I know Hevans EV Catorrius is a hormonal two year old colt, his first show at Windsor he screamed at every horse not knowing if they were male or female.  Achieving his “miles on the clock” he has calmed down and has ignored the surrounding horses unless one has come to close. I am always aware of my own space and am quick to alert any one walking their horse towards me, unaware I have a colt for everyone’s safety!

Today, the lorry that followed us into the show ground at Royal Three Counties Show had on board a beautiful 4yr old Appaloosa gelding. Their lorry parked next to us, Hevans EV Catorrius was “in love”! He followed this loud black and white leopard horse with his eye where ever it went! He didn’t misbehave, It was just a constant whimper with his penis out!

We trotted on five legs and was placed Reserve Champion to Reus love……

Every Day is a School Day…….

ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW (1)    ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW (4)

Royal Cornwall Show proved to a long day that won Hevans EV Catorrius 2nd place in the Main Register young stock class and a Reserve Champion in the Championship.

The weather was dry but O’Boy it was windy, our first real experience of blowing banners and flags! Even though Reus walked nicely, I was constantly re checking him because it was obvious he was nervous and uneasy. He stood quiet in the line-up and stood for the judge but under no circumstances was he going to trot in his show, every stride was a bunny hop!

An educational day, these are the sights and sounds he must encounter and become familiar with…..

Knowing your roots…….

When choosing the blood line of any Stallion it is always a good idea to know the history!

Kiss My Finest Heart as an endurance Stallion is wonderful and all that “goes” with him as the father of my present youngstock.  What stands behind him is his Sire Eagles ThundernToby, a resident stallion of Deanna Brown at www.thunderntobyranch.com.

It was some time ago when I contacted Deanna to give her the news of Thunders three grandchildren her in the UK. Today I received the most encouraging letter along with a few pictures of Hevans EV Catorrius, Hevans EV Pascalius and Hevans EV Cateasters Grandfather!

I hope you appreciate their website as much as I have. Thunder is a horse that has a beautiful story behind his accomplishments! I have listed his achievements below these photos.

The blood line continues at Redheart Appaloosas……

One under the belt……

As a yearling, Hevans EV Catorrius won 6/11 classes, 4/11 placings, was awarded 4 Championships, 1 Reserve and 1 Supreme. 2014 would require a lot to live up to that! He is a two year old now and with him being so much stronger in body and mind it has been my fear would I be able to achieve the same or better?

Our trip to Royal Bath and West has slightly removed a little of the pressure! He was calm, still screaming at the mares but we were in control. He stood for the judge, his show was perfect and his patience in the line-up was achieved with a handful of grass!

Winning the amalgamated class of stallion, mare or gelding 4 years and over, with colt, filly or gelding 2 or 3 years old with part bred any age, any sex won us 1st place and Champion.

We still have a great season ahead but to win the first Championship is a huge relief and one under the belt!

Confirmed…….

A quick trip to Three Counties Equine Hospital LLP this evening proved to be great news!

Princesse Pascale has successfully conceived as the scan image shows the embryo (gestational sac) at 15 days post ovulation.

PP lost her pregnancy last year, so I will try not to get too excited.

We will confirm her pregnancy is maintained with another scan later in June.

Every thing crossed!

Patience……

Today was a short journey for Hevans EV Catorrius, to Moreton Morrell in Warwickshire for the Foreign Breed classes held under the Saddlebred Association.

HEVANS EV CATORRIUS - MAY FESTIVAL 2014 (1)

He took first place in “Foreign Breeds Coloureds In Hand” any age, judged on 75% confirmation 25% colour. The second class was another first place in the “Open Foreign Breeds In Hand” any sex, under three years old! Delighted! Hats off to Reus for his second show of 2014.

The Championship proved to be a different story! Reus stood beautifully at the end of the line for ages whilst the judge inspected the others! As the judged approached us, Reus’s patience had gone! Toys thrown out of the pram…….this lack of ability to suppress restlessness in a long time line up is going to become familiar!

Where does the time go……

It was September 2013 when I emptied the lorry, cleaned all the equipment and stored it away! Last night it was all revisited and every item given a new home for the next six months. A trip to Royal Windsor for Hevans EV Catorrius proved to be a exhausting day for me! As a strong two-year-old colt he strutted his way, screaming at every horse he thought might be a filly! It was a 35 minute walk from our lorry to the warm up ring and by the time we entered the ring his voice was a mere whimper! Settled, walking out he took first place in the Youngstock and Reserve Champion in the Open in the Main Register Appaloosa In Hand. A promising start to 2014…..

Stepping out……

After a few days bonding in the confinement of a stable, it was time for Catori & Easter to stretch their legs and allow Catori time to graze. The purchase of a corral ensured no galloping but an area large enough for the mare and foal to be turned for a few hours.Easter's 1st day out 0

Peyres Catori Cat & Hevans EV Cateaster, first day out!

After a few circuits of the corral, Catori took a deep sigh and put her head down to eat, which was a relief for Easter who was exhausted mentally and pysically by her mother’s actions….

Once Easter is strong enough they will be introduced to Princesse Pascale and Hevans EV Pascalius in the big field.

Mother Nature is wonderful……

The birth of my third Appaloosa!

After nights of foal watching, Peyres Catori Cat finally got down to it! At 8pm Catori was looking extremely uncomfortable just as my children were going to bed….What an excuse to stay up late!

By 9pm two brown feet, followed by a brown head appeared and within seconds a white body surprised us all!

Hevans EV Cateaster shortly after birth

Later we quietly walked to the stable to meet Easter, delighted to say it was a filly, just what I “ORDERED”.

After a thorough examination, “hand printing” session we ensured nursing was achieved before checking the placenta.

HEVANS EV CATEASTER

Leaving them to bond and put the children to bed…..

She will have a family home for life and the best possible chance of a showing career before becoming a proven quality mother herself!

On this day we also celebrated the birth of Evee, she is one year’s old today!
